• Warm Homes Fund

If you are struggling to pay your energy bills and your home is hard to keep warm in winter, you may be eligible to receive help through Norfolk’s Warm Homes Fund Partnership.

The partnership was created following Broadland District Council’s successful bid for £3.1m in funding from the National Grid’s Warm Homes Fund. The project aims to help more than 1,000 people, including homeowners and renters.

This money will be used to provide insulation and first-time central heating such as renewable heating, mains gas, oil, or LPG. The aim is to increase comfort in fuel-poor households that do not have any central heating, as well as to provide energy advice and support.

You may be able to get help from the Warm Homes Fund if you have underlying health issues, are caring for someone vulnerable and are worried about your home being cold or damp. To find out if you, a relative or friend are eligible for support under the scheme, please contact the Broadland District Council Energy Team:

  • Burglaries in Acle

There were several burglaries in Acle last week.  Broadland Police are asking residents to be extra vigilant. If you see any suspicious activity please call 101 to report it. Please provide vehicle registration numbers where possible. Keep all doors and windows locked and keep your valuables out of view in your vehicles.

  • Police warning following a series of burglaries

Police are urging residents to be vigilant following a series of burglaries in the Broadland and north Norwich areas.

Ten incidents have been reported in Acle, Drayton, Norwich, Salhouse and Horstead since 18 December and in the majority of cases suspect(s) have forced entry by smashing windows or doors.

Local Policing Commander, Chief Inspector Wes Hornigold, said officers were investigating whether the incidents were linked and that some of the properties targeted had been holiday homes.

He said: “We would urge anyone living in these areas to be vigilant and take the necessary security measures such as ensuring doors and windows are locked. Residents can also help us by notifying police about any suspicious activity or behaviour they may witness. You know your communities better than anyone else so will be best placed to notice is something or someone is out of place.”

A watch and jewellery was stolen from a home in Old Market Close, Acle, on 18 December while overnight on Friday 21 December suspect(s) targeted a property in Orchard Bank, Drayton, stealing van keys before taking the vehicle.

Jewellery and watches were stolen from a property in Norwich Road, Horstead, between 14 and 29 December.

An untidy search was carried out at a property in Blenheim Crescent in Norwich, targeted on Christmas Day although it appears nothing has been stolen.

Cash was stolen from a property in Thunder Lane, Thorpe St Andrew, between 1.30pm on 26 December and 9.50pm on 27 December.

Between 21 and 27 December a property in Barn Piece Close in Salhouse was targeted by burglars who stole jewellery and watches while jewellery and a mobile phone were taken from a house in Woodside Road, Norwich on 30 December.

Attempted burglaries have also been reported in Ling Way, Coltishall and The Street in Brundall between 23 and 28 December.

Officers are urging homeowners to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.

Anyone with information should contact Norfolk Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.

  • Transforming our Children’s Centres Consultation

Norfolk County Council have been working on the re-design of a proposed new service for children’s centres which reflects national and local changes as to how families are supported and considers the needs of parents with children aged 0-5 years across Norfolk.

The proposed new service aims to:

1.Bring the services out of the buildings and into the community, to the children and families who need it the most.
2.Help communities and parents offer local activities and groups.
3.Make it easier for families to access the information and advice they need, through providing better joined up online and digital services.
4.Change how we work to make sure we deliver in the best way for today’s families.

They are  consulting on this proposed new model and want to direct you to the webpage www.norfolk.gov.uk/childrenscentres where the consultation proposals are published and open for consideration and your responses.  The consultation is open until 12 November and we look forward to receiving your feedback.
